This shot features McPhees Rock at the height of the old Dunstan gold trail. The route is now used frequently by 4WD enthusiasts and is about 2 hours driving in land from Dunedin. At its height it is over 1000 metres above sea level.
The photo was taken at about 5:30 pm in mid December. The location is very remote and is frequently closed in winter.

wow your shots are beautiful. i've never been to Dunedin, but i've always wanted to. Being an Orclander I suspect i may prefer the Edinburgh of the South in summer though ;-) Happy New Year.
Thank you for your kind words. I do hope you will visit the South Island. I think Kiwis need to appreciate their heritage more. For some reason we tend to take it for granted.
