Southern Birdlife

I came across this bird while walking home after work. It's the South Island pied oystercatcher and it's a curious species. Most birds fly away when approached but not this one. The pied oystercatcher defends its nest by making itself very conspicuous and sometimes by feigning wing injury. That's good news for a photographer as it makes an ideal wildlife subject! Wild And Untamed

St Kilda on a windy day. Dunedin's beaches are always interesting even in rough weather. Posted by Picasa

A Moment to Savour

Sunsets are always special times for photographers. But occasionally when you are in the right place at the right time they become almost magicalPosted by Picasa

Sunset on Otago Harbour

I was in the right place and at the right time to get this shot. The Sun was setting when it suddenly broke through the clouds to create this stunning view. Posted by Picasa

Another view of Dunedin's best kept secret, Smaills Beach. Posted by Picasa

But Only Briefly...

It was indeed a brief interlude. In only a few minutes the mist that had engulfed the harbour was gone. Fortunately I was there to capture the moment. Posted by Picasa

Completely Empty

Allans Beach could be called Dunedin's best kept secret but most locals aren't aware of it either! Posted by Picasa

A Deserted Paradise

Allans Beach is one of the more remote beaches in Dunedin. You have to go looking for it on purpose. Posted by Picasa
